About Us

Hi, I’m Steph—and if you know me at all, you know that knitting, crochet, and crafting have a way of sneaking into just about every corner of my life. I run AdoreKnit, where I dream up stitch markers and project bags that bring a little extra joy (and sometimes a lot of giggles) to makers everywhere. When I’m not wrangling yarn or fabric, you can usually find me shuttling kids to the soccer field—where the sidelines have officially become my craft room. And yes, I’m the one knitting at the bar, in the coffee shop, on the airplane, and basically anywhere people won’t be distracted by my hands constantly in motion. Oh—and if you’ve ever listened to a knitting podcast with a suspiciously familiar voice, it might’ve been me. I’ve renamed my show almost as many times as I’ve cast on socks.

These days (2025)

Most of my “me time” is claimed by running AdoreKnit and shuttling the boys to soccer (can you believe I have a freshman?!). The sidelines have basically become my craft room. With six days a week on the fields, I treasure those 90-minute games as guaranteed knitting time—although I’ll admit, some games are just too stressful to even manage mindless knitting.

(2022)

The boys don’t really care about my projects anymore, but I’ve set myself a goal: to crochet each of them a granny square blanket before they head off to college in 2029 and 2032. It feels wild to say those years out loud—wasn’t I just knitting baby hats for them yesterday? These days, Aphrodite and Azymondias are the ones curled up in my lap while I knit. Both are very good yarn cats. Around this time, my mom also decided it was high time I leveled up my sewing skills—because, in her words, there was no reason she should be the only bag maker in the family. She wasn’t worried, just determined that I be “at least half as good as she was.” (Thanks, Mom.)

(2017)

Steve and I started AdoreKnit with a simple dream: to spread a little more joy in the crafting world. For us, it’s never just about stitch markers or project bags—it’s about giving makers ways to express themselves, whether that’s through a themed project bag that sparks a smile or an adorable stitch marker that starts a conversation. We love the idea that these little touches bring happiness, connection, and community to crafters everywhere.
And since we were already building AdoreKnit together, it only seemed fitting to change the podcast name to match—so Knitting Samurai and Her Guys officially became The AdoreKnit Podcast.

(2015)

My dad chants “knit, knit, repeat!” as if that might actually speed up my needles, while my mom marvels at how I still find time to knit with two busy boys underfoot. Ro inherits my love of yarn early (though as a toddler he mostly chews on it), while Tristan is wide-eyed at the endless rainbow of project bags scattered through the house. Back then, the boys would climb onto my lap, and I would simply knit around them, perfectly content to have them close.

Meanwhile, my podcast was growing right alongside my family. With the birth of my first son in 2012, The Expectant Knitter became Knitting Samurai Plus One. Then in 2014, when my second son arrived, it only seemed fitting to rebrand again—this time as Knitting Samurai and Her Guys. At this point, podcast naming was becoming its own hobby, right alongside the actual knitting.

(2010)

So much of my knitting life is shaped by the little routines and personalities around me. Our cats, Mac and Linus, are constant “helpers.” Linus drapes himself across my lap while I knit, and Mac claims every finished object—he even tries to turn the drying rack into his personal hammock. Steve, who’s been around since 1998, has long since realized that knitting comes first. My friends have also given up being surprised when I pull out a project bag—they’ve seen me knit everywhere: at a bar, in a coffee shop, around the campfire, even on an airplane. At this point, they’d probably be more shocked if I showed up without my knitting.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, I decided to start sharing my knitting life out loud—I launched The Expectant Knitter Podcast, because obviously talking about my stitches was just as important as making them. At the time, I wanted a space to chat about knitting and being pregnant—and, of course, all the tiny baby knits I couldn’t stop making. That was the first of several podcast names… let’s just say I like to keep things fresh.
